Sixteen members of the Regina Philatelic Club enjoyed the last minutes of sunshine to make their way to the second September meeting. They were joined by two members who took advantage of the ZOOM link to the meeting. Several members kept Treasurer Glen busy with paying the dues for this “stamp” year.

President Ian opened the meeting at 7:30 pm by pointing out a small change needed in the agenda for the next meeting: in the “Stamps and the letter …” segment of the meeting the letter “G” is now the official version of the challenge. The change was necessary because the letter “F” was featured in a meeting at the end of the last season.

Then it was time for the scheduled presentation “The Penny Red” by President Ian. The very informative presentation highlighted many details of the stamp production at the very early stage of the use of postage stamps. We learned a lot about the many varieties in perforation, watermarks and the numerous security measures introduced in the design and production of this stamps over the close to 40 years this stamps was in use.

The questions several members asked about the interesting topic of the presentation were promptly answered by President Ian, while about half dozen groups of examples of the “Penny Red” were circulated around the round boardroom table.

The “Show and Tell” session featured some Spanish “Republican” money consisting of modified postage stamps, and a UPU anniversary medal.

A small number of lots changed hands under the guidance of Auctioneer Ian, although several sheets of mint Canadian stamps will have to wait for a future opportunity to change hands.

The meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm and members had to head home without the benefit of daylight. Oh well…
